Feature

Overview

An evidence based formulation of potent botanicals and marine sourced collagen for decreasing inflammation.

Wound healing and post exercise repair involve a multi-step process that includes inflammation - a healthy and normal biological response. During the inflammation stage specialized cells move into the site of injury to clear damage and debris and make way for repair. In some cases the state of inflammation can be prolonged or excessive, which may lead to unrepaired injury, scar formation, chronic pain and damage to other tissues.

Also, our modern environment and diet are both highly pro-inflammatory as well as having a reduced amount of naturally occurring anti-inflammatory factors.

myRepair's ingredients have been shown to exert powerful anti-inflammatory effects to help the repair process move forward. Marine collagen further supports repair by providing one of the most important raw materials for rebuilding connective tissue.

Organic | non-GMO | gluten free | dairy free | soy-free | non-extract.

Indications

myRepair may assist with:

inflammatory disorders

migraine

endometriosis

dysmenorrhea

muscle and tissue injury

skin health

The phytonutrients in myRepair are capable of significantly modulating immune function and reducing inflammation. This has been evidenced from multiple biomarkers in clinical trials performed in different populations of adults with varying health statuses. Dietary supplementation may serve as an adjunct to conventional pharmaceutical or medical therapies.

Mode of Action

myRepair's combination of ingredients work synergistically to decrease inflammation and promote healing.

Marine collagen (type 1 and 3, 3-6kD peptides) - connective tissue repair.

Marine collagen is a type 1 and 3 collagen that is obtained from marine sources. Type 1 is the most prevalent in the human body and found in skin, hair, nails, tendons, organs and bones. Type 3 collagen is found in the human bone marrow. In a 12-week clinical trial where participants were randomised to either marine collagen or placebo, the marine collagen group had a 35% reduction in wrinkle score over placebo [32799362]. Dietary marine collagen has been shown to decrease the catabolism of articular chondrocytes (cells associated with cartilage rebuilding) [33916312]. In animal studies marine collagen has been shown to accelerate wound repair by inhibiting TGF-beta signalling [33806637]. A systematic review of animal studies has elucidated the mechanisms of marine collagen skin healing as being due to increased granulation, blood vessel formation and epithelial cell formation [33404918]. In equine cartilage cell studies, marine collagen was shown to decrease gene expression associated with osteoarthritis [33430111].

Devil's claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) - anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antioxidant.

Devil's claw is an African plant whose root has been traditionally used to relieve joint symptoms. It's beneficial properties are suspected to be caused by monoterpenoid compounds [34451822]. In a 12-week clinical trial of gonarthritis (arthritis of the knee) patients, the group that took a daily formulation including Devil's claw experienced significant improvement in physical and mental quality of life measures over placebo [28614869]. Similar benefits were reported in healthy recreational runners with knee pain [34067240]. A systematic review found that Devil's claw provided relief from lower back pain at a functional equivalence to a COX-2 selective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory pharmaceutical [25536022].

Amla berry (Emblica officinalis) - anti-inflammatory

Known also as Indian gooseberry, Amla berry has immense importance in indigenous traditional medicinal systems, including Ayurveda, for its medicinal and nutritional benefits. In a clinical trial of metabolic syndrome with endothelial dysfunction twice daily dosage of amla berry vs placebo resulted in a significant reduction of systemic inflammation [31060549]. The mechanism of anti-inflammation includes a reduction of TNFa and IL6 pro-inflammatory cytokines [23742702]. In a clinical trial of chronic periodontitis scaling plus amla berry topical application was more effective at reducing periodontitis than scaling alone [26914986].

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) - anti-inflammatory and antioxidant

Curcumin, the main active constituent of turmeric (Curcuma longa), is a naturally occurring phenolic compound with a wide variety of pharmacological activities. Glycaemia and lipidaemia are associated with chronic inflammation. A meta-analysis on glycaemic and lipid profile found curcumin provided a significant reduction in glycosylated haemoglobin and low density lipoprotein (LDL) [33514002]. A meta-analysis on circulating IL-6 pro-inflammatory cytokine found a significant effect of curcumin in lowering circulating IL-6 concentrations. This effect appeared to be more evident in patients with higher degrees of systemic inflammation [27392742]. A meta-analysis on C-reactive protein (CRP) found that curcumin reduced CRP levels [23922235]. Other pro-inflammatory factors found to be reduced by curcumin include NFkappaB, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), lipoxygenase (LOX), and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) [16387899].

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) - anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.

Ginger is a member of a plant family that includes cardamom and turmeric. Indians and Chinese are believed to have produced ginger as a tonic root for over 5000 years to treat many ailments. This plant is now cultivated throughout the humid tropics, with India being the largest producer. Ginger exerts a variety of powerful therapeutic and preventive effects and has been used for thousands of years for the treatment of hundreds of ailments from colds to cancer. Ginger has undergone extensive research and meta-analyses have reported the following beneficial effects: significant improvement on serum inflammatory and oxidative stress markers [32147845] and reduction in glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) [30921234], which is associated with the increased risk of adverse outcomes in trauma patients [24550609].

Pepper (Piper nigrum) - anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.

Piperine is an active alkaloid in pepper that interacts with curcumin to form an intermolecular complex that inhibits curcumin's breakdown (via glucuronidation) in the liver, thereby increasing its bioavailability by as much as 20x [9619120]. In addition to potentiating the effects of curcumin (available as Turmeric in myRepair), pepper has numerous health benefits [27671817] including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects [33091445] in its own right.

Frankincense (Boswellia serrata) - anti-inflammatory.

The gum resin of Boswellia serrata is a traditional ayurvedic medicine. A recent meta-analysis has found Boswellia to be an effective treatment for inflammatory joint disease [32680575]. Pre-clinical studies have demonstrated the ability of Boswellia to suppress auto-immune disease [31301539]. The anti-inflammatory actions of Boswellia are caused by inhibition of leukotriene synthesis, prostaglandin synthesis and inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines including IL-1, IL-2, IL-6, IFN-γ and TNF-α [27671822].

Ingredients

All ingredients are certified organic. There are no inactive ingredients present. There are no additives, flavours, preservatives or fillers. No extracts are used.

MyGene only supports environmentally sustainable and ethical practices.

Use of the entire plant component

According to the current state of scientific knowledge several groups of active compounds are contributing to the efficacious properties of each of the botanical ingredients and in some cases they have not been definitively characterised. Therefore MyGene's position is to retain the entire plant component wherever possible rather than rely on plant extracts.

Organically derived materials

Organically grown plants have not been exposed to human-made pesticides, fertilizers or genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and thus avoid such contaminants, which in some cases have been found to contribute to cancer risk [34352232], birth defects [34207279] and hormone dysfunction [34355365]. Research has also shown that organically grown plants contain significantly higher quantities of beneficial nutrients such as antioxidants [20359265]. MyGene sources organic ingredients from certified producers whenever possible.
